1. ‘Baahubali’
Although “Baahubali” is not a Tamil film, but it is the best budget grossing film if we take the dubbed film category into account as well. Its second part is coming (by this date) and it is considered to overtake the first part. It collected more than the budget used for the film and made the producer of the film and the entire team happy.
This ‘ Rajinikanth’ film is one of the best action films from the maestro. It collected a lot of money even though it cost the producer a fortune. It had created a wave even before the film hit the screens.
Based on the concept of artificial intelligence, the film was a costly one with Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the lead par. The technical etiquettes were very expensive or the producers of this film, making this film the third most budget grossing film in Tamil industry.
With a rich cast working in this ‘ Chiyaan Vikram’ starrer film, the special effects consumed a lot for the production team. The story was well designed as well as greatly directed to make this film a money magnet. Even though the film cost a lot to the crew, it collected only a decent amount of profit.
“Lingaa” is another Rajinikanth film. But unlike other Rajinikanth films in this list, “Lingaa" couldn't become a money collector for the production team, making it a flop rather than a success. But the special effects and all other costs turned making this film a big fortune.
Ilayadalapathi Vijay starred in this film which was released in theaters on 2016. It was a budget grossing film with its big cast and action effects. The film is just an action-packed formula but collected a medium amount of money.
‘Vijay’ again comes into the list with the budget grossing “Puli". But this time, the film is a complete failure. With special effects being a comedy throughout the film the film doesn’t give anything to the fans apart from the big budget it cost the team to make it.
This film is a complete animation film. Rajinikanth is playing the character role in this film, but with a lack of strong story foundation and the label of an animation film doesn’t help this film in any way, making it an utter flop.
9. "24"
Surya’s biggest hit in 2016, “24” is a costly science thriller to be ever made in Tamil film industry. It talks about time travel, and ‘Surya’ plays a triple role in this movie. It collected a vast amount of money throughout the world and was a big hit until now in 2016. With the special effects and cast, the movie turned out to be one of the biggest budget grossing films in the industry.
Another Vijay film, “Kaththi" is another action packed film from the Tamil film industry. It cost a fortune for the producers with the action it has and the star cast it endures. But it has the same Vijay formula and collected only a decent amount of money.
